1927 C.G. Conn New Wonder II Silver Plated Alto Saxophone – Gold Wash Bell
The mid-1920s Conn New Wonder II altos represent one of the defining periods of American saxophone craftsmanship, combining bold Jazz Age styling with the huge, colorful tonal character that made Conn one of the most important saxophone manufacturers of the early twentieth century. This 1927 silver plated example is an especially attractive horn, retaining its original finish with a beautifully aged natural patina and a richly polished gold wash bell that gives the instrument tremendous visual presence.
These New Wonder II altos are known for their broad, resonant sound and remarkable tonal complexity. Compared to later alto designs, they tend to produce a larger, warmer, and more orchestral voice with exceptional projection and richness throughout the full range of the instrument. The sound is lively and expressive with the kind of depth and personality that has made vintage Conn altos enduring favorites among jazz players and collectors alike.
The original silver plate remains beautifully preserved with a rich natural vintage patina throughout, while the original gold wash bell has polished up especially well and contrasts wonderfully against the darker silver body. Conn engraving from this era remains among the finest produced on American saxophones, and the overall presentation of this horn is exceptionally strong.
Mechanically, the saxophone is currently playing very well with new pads and materials throughout. The horn seals properly and feels responsive under the fingers, making it an immediately usable vintage professional alto without requiring additional restoration work. Cosmetically, the body presents beautifully overall with no noticeable dents or scratches.
